CHEN Ran (she/they) is a theatre maker, artist, and curator from coastal Southeast China, currently based in Beijing and Utrecht. She is the founder of StageNoMore, a Beijing-based theatre collective. She holds a BA in Film and TV Production from the Central Academy of Drama (China) and an MA in Fine Art and Design from the University of the Arts Utrecht (Netherlands). With a background in theatre, media, film, and fine art, her practice moves between bodies and screens, reality and simulation—drawn to the soft tensions of mediated life. Working from a place of confusion, curiosity, and subtle resistance, she explores how we live, perform, and care in an increasingly digital world—and how we reclaim agency within this transformation. Her recent projects include Tiny, Fluffy, Sweet (Asia-Pacific Triennial of Performing Arts; ACT Shanghai Contemporary Theatre Festival, 2025), Beijing City Park Strolling Project (Goethe-Institut East Asia, 2023), And Suddenly I Disappear: the China/UK/SG 'd' Monologues (Luminous Festival; UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, 2023), It’s me. Speaking. (Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center, 2021; Guangdong Times Museum, 2020; Beijing International Fringe Festival, 2020), and multiple stage readings for the Sound and Fury Play Reading Festival (2018–2022). She was nominated for “Emerging Director of the Year” at the One Drama Awards (2021), and for “Best Innovative Production” at the Chinese Theatre Awards for her work Approximation: Dee & D-1.
